To limit the sudden reverse torque that occurs, for example, if the drill bit jams or snags.

The Marathon motor’s special winding protection and epoxy resin powder coating on the field coil make it absolutely insensitive to the otherwise destructive effects of grinding dust. The Metabo winding protection grid offers additional protection against the abrasive effects of such dust and grit.

This makes for convenient tool change, e.g. using the Metabo quick-action keyless chuck. The mounted accessory can be changed without need of a spanner - on angle grinders and jig saws too.

Variospeed (V) electronics explained:
The tools speed is infinitely variable allowing you to select extremely low speeds or the maximum speed. The tools speed decreases as the load placed on it increases. The lower the selected speed, the sooner the machine will come to a stop.
